Company founder Ash Southern grew up on the Isle of Man, in Great Britain, where he went to college to complete a three year apprenticeship in 2003. By 2006, he was a fully certified carpenter, with an NVQ City & Guilds diploma.

Ash was lucky enough to serve his apprenticeship and continue for several years to learn his trade with a company who covered a wide range of carpentry. The company would make custom pieces of millwork in a workshop, to building houses from frame to finish. He was taught how to frame houses, to building custom walk-in closets, hardwood floors, kitchen installs and finishing details of a house.

After taking a couple of years to explore the world, Ash decided to move to Canada in January 2013. He soon settled into the construction industry, firstly with a framing company, where he learnt the BC building codes, and then joined a renovation company, where he soon started to run the jobs as a lead carpenter/foreman.

In 2018, Ash started his own company, Ash & Oak Construction. The company resides in Comox Valley, Vancouver Island.
